Is my data safe?

If you decide to take Memory Exam, you will be asked to record your voice and answer questions about your memory. That is personal information, and it is reasonable to want to understand what happens to it. You should know how your voice data is handled, where it is stored, who can access it, how it is protected and what happens to it after your assessment. We believe those answers should be clear and easy to find before you decide to take the exam.

Your data is secure and protected

Your results are health information, and we treat them that way. Your voice recordings and assessment results are protected health information under HIPAA, the U.S. law governing the privacy and security of health information. HIPAA is not simply a label or marketing claim. It establishes legal requirements for how protected health information is handled, including requirements around privacy and security. It is a legal standard with strict obligations, and it is the same standard that applies to the records held by your doctor's office.

Your data is encrypted while it is transmitted and when it is stored. It is kept on access-controlled infrastructure designed to limit access to authorized users and systems. These rigorous safeguards protect and secure your voice recordings, assessment results and other personal information from unauthorized access.

Who can see your results?

Only you can. Your results belong to you.

If you choose to share your results with your doctor, a family member or someone else you trust, you can. Your private results are never shared with anyone other than you, even if a relative asks for them.

If you take the exam as part of a research study, the consent form for the study explains how your data will be used and shared. You review and agree to those terms before you begin.

Our commitment to your privacy

Your data is never sold. Your information is not sold to advertisers, data brokers or insurers.
Your results remain under your control. We do not share them with anyone, including your insurance company.
Your voice recordings are not used for advertising. They are not used to target you with ads.

Your voice recordings

The exam records your spoken answers because your responses are used to score the assessment. Those recordings are part of your health information and are protected accordingly.

Recording only happens when you are answering the exam questions. The exam does not listen or record when you are not taking the assessment, and nothing remains on your device (computer, tablet or smartphone) to listen or record after you finished your exam.

Accessing results for a loved one

If you are helping a parent or partner take the exam, the account and results belong to them.

Your help setting up the exam does not change that. Their health information remains theirs.

If they want you to see their results, they can choose to share them with you.

Questions and data requests

If you want to understand the information we hold about you, or you want to request its deletion, contact us and we will explain what we have and act on your request. You will not be talked out of it and do not need to provide a reason for your request.
